What We Do

What We Do

The Leadership Academy of South Sudan opened in Nimule, South Sudan, in 2014.

LASS was developed through a partnership with and the guidance of Cornerstone Development Africa. Cornerstone has decades of expertise working in East Africa and its mission "to raise up future leaders with a shared vision of positively transforming their communities and nations – as an outgrowth of their own personal transformation" inspired our approach to LASS. The LASS curriculum is based on Cornerstone's, which teaches "timeless, universal principles like forgiveness, honesty, integrity, compassion, kindness, hard work, humility, and service to the less fortunate – as exemplified in the teachings of Jesus and the perennial wisdom of all traditions – without affiliation to any one institutional religious group."

An international university preparatory boarding academy, LASS educates, equips and empowers young men and women to become leaders who serve their communities and their country. We seek to create a life-transforming learning environment that molds young men and women into future leaders of South Sudan – men and women whose lives fully reflect the character qualities and leadership principles embodied in the life of Jesus Christ.
  • Create young leaders who effectively serve society beyond their own self-interest
  • Create a student community that reflects the different tribes, political groupings, cultures and religious backgrounds found in South Sudan
  • Equip students to succeed and contribute to the economic development of South Sudan through rigorous academic studies and vocational training
  • Implement a comprehensive discipleship program that follows the principles, precepts, and person of Jesus Christ
  • Nurture a tight-knit alumni network that creates a family of LASS alums who work together to improve themselves, their home communities and South Sudan
  • Lay the foundation for LASS to become self-sufficient within three years of its creation

When recruiting students and reviewing applications, LASS considers men and women from all states and tribes in South Sudan on the basis of:

  • Leadership potential and service experience
  • Academic strength and potential
  • Financial need
  • Good character
  • A willingness to work hard
  • A willingness to study and embrace the principles of leadership and character development
Clinical Health LASS is just the beginning of the work that we hope to accomplish in South Sudan. It is our desire that graduates from LASS will go on to create a lifelong brotherhood and sisterhood of friends who are united in the common ground they find in the principles, precepts, and person of Jesus. Our relationship with our students will not end when they graduate from our two-year program at LASS. We want to empower our students and form a partnership with them that will ultimately impact the nation. We will support and sustain an extensive and active alumni network that will constantly reinforce the vision of LASS and help our graduates find jobs and start businesses across South Sudan.
